Woodland AAUW Information and Membership

SEE MEDIA PAGE FOR CORONA VIRUS UPDATE AND AAUW LOCAL, STATE AND NATIONAL NEWSWORTHY EVENTS.

AAUW was established nationally in 1881 and advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research. Our vision is to empower all women and girls to reach their highest potential (pictures of Tech Trek girls reporting on their experience to AAUW Woodland).

The Woodland branch supports education by raising funds for middle school girls to attend Tech Trek, an AAUW CA one week summer program that provides education on a university campus in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields. The program inspires the girls to attend college, think about more advanced degrees, and increases their self esteem.

 Tech Trek Details.

The girls live on campus in the dorms, eat in the cafeteria and experience college life. The program started in 1999 in California, the program is now in 11 other states and growing every year. To become a Tech Trek camper a girl must be nominated by her teacher, submit an application including an essay on an assigned topic and be interviewed by AAUW members. Selected campers are asked, but not required, to pay a small amount and AAUW covers the rest of the fee.

The girls are often excited by their first experience of living in a college dorm and they express in many ways how their world has expanded to include new friendships and new ideas.

In addition to Tech Trek, AAUW Woodland also provides scholarships to students returning to higher education.
